Thorsten is a skilled ESD Consultant with over 13 years’ experience in the industry. His passion for sustainable design solution finds its roots in Germany where he studied civil / structural engineering and worked as a project manager for two years.
Throughout his career, he has operated as lead ESD consultant on a range of projects encompassing educational, research, health care, sports / recreation, residential and government sectors.
He has gained extensive skills in designing for carbon emissions reduction as well as water efficiency and Indoor Environment Quality. His approach is driven by first principles: investigating how the proposed building interacts with the environment and responding to the aspects that most impact the environmental performance. This methodology leads to the highest environmental performance for the given budget.
Thorsten is very skilled in implementing ESD initiatives such as thermal chimneys, natural and mixed mode ventilation, fabric energy storage, geothermal air-tempering, co-generation, greywater recycling and rainwater / stormwater harvesting.
Andrew has more than 11 years’ experience in structural engineering building design, and has gained extensive experience on a wide range of projects from large scale high profile to challenging small scale, both locally here in Australia and also abroad in the UK. He has successfully design managed large multi-discipline projects from concept through to completion and has a thorough understanding of all aspects of building design. He particularly focuses on providing a high level of service to clients and ensuring only the highest quality of design and documentation.
Dominic has over 20 years of consulting experience in the design and project management of a large variety of projects. He is particularly known for his work on large and complex health and laboratory projects such as the Royal Children’s Hospital, the Royal Women’s and Austin / Mercy Hospitals and the South Australian Medical Health Research Institute (SAHMRI).
Dominic brings a unique hands-on understanding of how mechanical systems are designed, installed and commissioned. His work experience includes a 7 year period working with a mechanical contractor that has given him a practical edge and the ability to “see” cost effective solutions where others can’t.
Ray is what you would call an Engineer’s Engineer. With over forty years of experience in fire protection and mechanical services design he brings a level of expertise which is sought out by our clients. Whilst he does not practice as a Fire Safety Engineer, his background in this field further increases his understanding of fire services design and enables him to be a source of sound advice to rest of the project team.
His experience includes fire detection and protection of commercial, industrial, institutional and high rise residential buildings including dry pipe sprinkler systems and gas fire suppression systems.
He also has wide experience in mechanical services, including ammonia industrial refrigeration systems for cold rooms and processes, industrial compressed air systems, glycol refrigeration, air conditioning for pharmaceutical, food and electronic industries as well as general air conditioning for low and medium rise offices.

In addition to his solid electrical design skills, Ben has also successfully led multi-discipline teams on projects including the Simonds Stadium sports lighting project in Geelong.

With over 25 years’ experience as a fire and risk specialist, Ian is the Fire Engineering leader for Irwinconsult Melbourne and heads up a team of fire safety engineers and fire services design engineers. Ian has developed fire safety strategies and performed risk assessments for all occupancy types, including many major stadium, retail and mixed use buildings.
Ian has had a varied career as a research materials scientist, forensic investigator and fire engineer. He was part of the original Fire Code Reform Centre team responsible for the introduction of the Fire Engineering Guidelines as well as various codes and guidelines for the Department of Justice and BCA Class 9c provisions. Ian has also conducted numerous quantitative and qualitative risk assessments for building, infrastructure, transport and major hazard facilities. Ian has also appeared as an expert witness in many building related matters using fire reconstruction techniques and modelling to assess fire spread and building response.

Gerry has over 40 years’ experience across Australia, Asia and the Middle East as a Facade specialist in all fields of facade-related building projects including new construction, building refurbishment, diagnostic investigation and product design.
His experience includes design and management within the aluminium fabrication industry both in Australia and Hong Kong, providing him with the ability to concentrate on affordability and buildability issues whilst achieving the client design brief. His career has seen him involved in the facades of numerous major projects.
Gerry has been involved as a regular guest lecturer to the Architecture and Building students at the University of Melbourne, Deakin University, the National University of Singapore and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Unal has over 30 years’ experience with commercial, residential and medical buildings, specialising in system design for projects in Australia, SE Asia and the Middle East. He has gained invaluable knowledge in construction whilst working with international consultants, specialist contractors and local builders.
Unal has consulted on numerous high rise developments throughout Asia and the Middle east including new construction, building investigations and refurbishment. Maree became an industry leading expert in waste management during her 12 years in local government. She has been instrumental in changing the way waste is planned and managed in high-rise towers.
With extensive experience in developing and writing of waste guidelines, Maree authored the City of Melbourne’s Guidelines for Preparing Waste Management Plans, which has been become the standard for many councils across Victoria. She also has experience writing Zero Waste strategies and action plans. While at the City of Melbourne, Maree developed waste generation rates. These have become the industry standard and have been adopted by Sustainability Victoria.
