The Palmerston Regional Hospital is the Northern Territory’s first new public hospital in almost 40 years. Funded by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments, the $160 million project  opened its doors to patients in August 2018, providing a modern and contemporary health facility with a range of specialised health care services.

Providing structural, civil, building services, building certification and ESD engineering services, Irwinconsult’s design integrates new hospital services including an emergency department, day procedures, in-patient, maternity and ambulatory health care services. New medical imaging modalities have also been incorporated by the hospital including CT, Fluoroscopy, X-ray, ultrasound and forward planning for MRI.

The hospital sits on a large, centralised 45 hectare site near the new Stuart Highway and Temple Terrace intersection providing space for future expansion while the current building has been designed for Importance Level 4 loading parameters and is debris protected for operation after a cyclone event.
