Known affectionately as The Shine Dome, The Australian Academy of Science Dome in Canberra was a notable pioneering structure of its day. Completed in 1959, the structure was created to reflect the inquiring and innovative nature of science and was the largest diameter dome ever completed in Australia at the time – its design requiring great mathematical skills and fortitude in an era before digital computing.

Over the years, the Dome has received numerous awards and was the first building in Canberra to be added to the National Heritage list for historical and architectural significance.
