With the much anticipated $1B new Royal Children’s Hospital project holding special significance to Melbourne, Irwinconsult was chosen to provide all civil and structural design for the entire project, working with the Children’s Health Partnership. Stage 2 of the project included the construction of a new multi-level building housing a retail food precinct, hotel and three-level basement carpark interconnected to the main in-patient/hospital.

In order to best incorporate the building into the natural beauty of the surroundings and achieve the challenging design aims, major landscape structures were required to see the parkland running over, through and around the buildings, merging seamlessly into Royal Park. The eastern and north western portion of the site will also be turned over to the City of Melbourne for further parkland.
