The Challenge/ Work with the Children's Health Partnership to aid the healing of children through the concept of a hospital in a park.
Our Solution/ With this much anticipated $1B project holding special significance to Melbourne, Irwinconsult was chosen to provide all civil and structural design for the entire new Royal Children's Hospital. Stage 2 of the project involves the construction of a new multi-level building housing a retail food precinct, hotel and 3-level basement carpark interconnected to the main in-patient/hospital.
In order to best incorporate the building into the natural beauty of the surroundings and achieve the challenging design aims, major landscape structures were required to see the parkland running over, through and around the buildings, merging seamlessly into Royal Park. The eastern and north western portion of the site will also be turned over to the City of Melbourne for further parkland.
