Our built environment relies on civil engineering infrastructure for daily operation.

Our Civil team has local and international experience in providing civil engineering consultancy for projects involving road works, storm water drainage and Water Sensitive Urban Design. We are accredited with VicRoads to undertake road and bridge design, and we are also accredited with the various retail water companies to project manage Authority Sewer and Water Supply diversions and relocations.

Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne

The new $1 billion hospital redevelopment will provide state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary care for children in a healing   environment that accommodates family support.

The new hospital is being delivered as a Private Public Patnership (PPP) under the Victorian Government's Partnerships Victoria model.  Irwinconsult provided structural and Civil engineering design throughout the bid phase and are now engaged in the detailed desgin program which will see the new hospital completed by December 2011. 

The civil engineering aspects include: earthworks, underground stormwater drainage (pumped and gravity), vehicular and pedestrian pavements. Stormwater drainage involves a 1500 cubic metre on-site detention system to maintain discharge off the site to pre-developed conditions. Water Sensitive Urban Design principles have been adopted for the external works including bio-swales, harvesting and assessment using M.U.S.I.C. software.

Australian Garden, Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbournecranbourne

Situated in Cranbourne, this division of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, features a gallery of exhibition gardens and sculpture accross 15 different landscape displays and is also home to several endangered species of bird and animal life.

Civil engineering includes road design and stormwater drainage to Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles, pavements, and bi-swales for the extended access ways and car parking.  The project includes earthworks, stormwater drainage, bio-swales, pavements, geometric coordination, boardwalks and shelters for Stage 2 of the Australian Garden extension.

Award winning project

Irwinconsult was approached to provide a broad range of engineering services for the Port Phillip Office redevelpment project, including Strutural, Civil and all building services.  The new office wing accommodates 400 staff and provides a reinvigorated Town Hall venue for hire, a new art gallery and community meeting rooms; with access througha stylish, light-filled atrium.

Civil engineering expertise included stormwater design and pavements for the external works including basement works, Stormewater drainage incorporated flood barrier design to protect the basement for the surcharged flow from the adjacent Melbourne Water main drain.

Home of the Western Bulldogs football club, this redevelopment involves Civil engineering that includes the removal and modification of the tiere embankments around the playing arena, improving road, rail and pedestrian access as well as carparking and stormwater drainage.

 A 600 bed Remand Centre situated in the Shire of Melton, Victoria, delivered as a PPP project.

Civil engineering aspects included over 1km of internal access roads and external intersection upgrades, staff and visitor carparks and stromwater drainage designed using Water Sensitive Urban Design principles which incorporate detention and retention basins that enable the reuse of harvested rainwater.

 

Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre, Melbourne

The design of earthworks and stromwater drainage included an on-site detnetion basin for the pool complex and a 400 space car park.  Roadworks design and documentation included pavement design and road geometry.

The Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre has been designed and located to take advantage of the panoramic views of the Melbourne Skyline.  The uniequely shaped building has its primary access aligned so as to point to the Melbourne  CBD.
