Profiles of some of our staff:
Design Engineer - Structural
B.E (Civil) Hons
"Starting work at Irwinconsult as a graduate engineer 2 years ago has been the best decision I have ever made. Within less than 5 months, I had the opportunity to work on large scale projects such as the State Sports Centre, Hyde Parkville Apartments and Waterside Apartments in Port Melbourne. The exposure to these high profile projects has increased my experience by leaps and bounds and cemented my passion for structural engineering.
The ambiance in the office is conducive for learning and working. The open plan office arrangement encourages engineers of different experiences to aid one another when faced with difficulties during a project. When fellow graduates ask me what I love the most about the office, I always tell them: "When I have questions, I never have to worry about not solving them as I am always within speaking distance to the Directors and Associates who have a wealth of experience!"
The social aspect of Irwinconsult also encourages the establishment of great friendships and comradeship. Lunches and Friday night drinks are taken around the office pool table, allowing employees to relax at work without having to leave the office. Monthly activities such as BBQ's International Week and Soup Day are just a few of the social activities that our Social Club has on offer to inspire a friendly working environment.
"After 5 great years at university I was very keen to get out into the industry and make a start on my career. I was very fortunate to have Irwinconsult take me on as a vacation student and then offer me a graduate position once I had settled in. Irwinconsult understands that young Australians often need to go travelling before starting their career and were very encouraging for me to take some time and go and 'scratch the itch'. With their approval, I took a few months off and flew to South America for an adventure and on returning it was straight back into my graduation program.
I found there was quite a steep learning curve coming straight out of university and into a role with a consulting firm, but with the mentoring and support network available at Irwinconsult, I feel that this is a great environment to be tackling the challenge. Working in an open plan office encourages interaction and communication, while having senior engineers working on desks right beside me facilitates faster learning and development."

Advanced Dip. of Civil Engineering (Structural Design) - RMIT
"I was very fortunate to receive such a career / lifestyle change and a well-rounded introduction to the construction / engineering industry at Irwinconsult. Since joining Irwinconsult as a trainee, I have been involved in a wide range of projects, from house extensions to the large scale heath projects.
These skills and experience gained has allowed me to progress through to becoming a Project Draftsperson.
There is a good team environment in the office. Everyone is happy to help each other out and share their knowledge. The combined knowledge of the staff means any problem can be overcome.
It is also exciting to be involved in a company that is at the forefront of BIM and Revit. Working collaboratively with architects, and even other disciplines within our office is both challenging and rewarding. It is also a great advantage to be able to do it with the most up to date software and equipment available."

B.E Civil (Hons)
"I was initially drawn to Irwinconsult by the company's expertise in the field of structural engineering and their involvement in high-profile design projects. Since beginning as a graduate engineer, I have been involved in a diverse range of projects including the Moonee Ponds Shopping Centre Project, Yarra's Edge Housing Development in Docklands and the new school of Architecture at Melbourne University. The large variety of work which I have been exposed to has enabled me to further develop the foundations learnt in university.
With a strong support network and mentoring system in place for graduates, from day one I was given the guidance and direction needed to complete tasks and further develop both my technical and interpersonal skills. The company has also supported and assisted me in obtaining my CPEng through Engineers Australia.
I've found the work environment at Irwinconsult to be very social, with most lunch times spent at the pool table with colleagues. The company social club which I am an active member of also holds monthly activities which have included movie and bowling nights."
